"Great hotel in a great location"
My wife and I stayed at Le Royal for 5 nights in June 2007. We were well impressed with what we got for our money. We thought that this was a great hotel in a great location. We paid 159 euros per night, which we thought was good value for our large comfortable room and a very good bathroom. Our room was smart, very nicely decorated and kept very clean for us by the housekeeping staff. There was always plenty of hot water available in the bathroom, which has not always been the case in hotels we have stayed in.
We got the impression that we were in a minority of people using the hotel for holiday purposes, the majority being on business. Given the 5 stars rating of the hotel it was not surprising that prices (breakfast, mini bar, etc.) were high; higher than we were prepared to pay. So we ate and drank elsewhere, enjoying a very reasonably priced breakfast each morning at Cafe Francais in the nearby Place D'Armes.
We made use of the hotel's courtesy shuttle bus to bring us from and take us back to the airport. This service added to the good value we felt we got from Le Royal. We didn't have much contact with the hotel's staff, but what little we did have was fine and they provided the assistance and information we needed when we asked for it.
Given the price we paid we give this hotel full marks and would recommend it for those visiting Luxembourg for a short holiday.
Luxembourg is a very picturesque city, and is surrounded by beautiful countryside. During our stay we visited the lovely town of Vianden (combination of train and bus to get there - ask at the railway station for details of the train times and bus connections) and the attractive area around Remich on the Moselle (bus to get there).
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Luxembourg. More people from the UK really should go there for a short holiday. It's a great city/country and so are its very friendly residents - most of whom speak excellent English.

"what a nice place to spend a weekend"
It may not be the coolest hotel at the party, but Le Royal carries itself of weel. It sits, rather regally at the top of the old town, just a couple of minutes away from the main Placa d'armas.
The rooms are soft and quiet and large enough (we were in 502), bathrooms are elegant and spotless, but the most memorable aspect of the hotel was the staff, always eager to be on hand to help with anything.
The pool and sauna facilities, while not state of the art, are adequate, and again the health centre staff are extremely helpful, the bar is a bit dated in a kitcsh 70's style, but again is soft and reassuring and not at all tatty.
It is fairly expensive, but in this class, the attention to detail and level of care given more than makes up for it's price.

Probably the best hotel in town. Worth the price you pay
Really an excellent hotel with large and comfortable rooms. Very friendly staff and excellent service. Worth its 5 stars and the expensive price you pay. Excellent breakfast and restaurant. |

"When can I go back?"
Everything was fantastic.
My daughter got a small notebook on her bed when we returned to our room, what a thought!
Lovely evening meal on the terrace.
Wish we had more time at this hotel.
You can see why it is one of the leading hotels in the world.
Will go back at the first opportunity.

"A gem of a hotel in a gem of a city"
As one Luxembourg native told me, Le Royal is the best hotel in the center. It is perfectly situated at in the financial district between the edge of the old center (shopping district) and the edge of park, and far enough away from the not as nice downtown area (around train station), but still walkable if you want to go there. The services of the hotel and attentiveness of the staff are tiptop, as you'd expect for this class of hotel. The breakfast buffet is great (by european standards), but what I'd expect at, say, the La Jolla Torrey Pines (CA) Hilton. What made this great stay a real treat was that I booked a "Royal" weekend via the net and stayed 2 nights with everything - i.e., fitness center, pool, sauna & steam, and a fantastic dinner at their attached gourmet restaurant for a total of 206 euros, less than 1/2 the normal discounted rate. But I would have gladly stayed there even without a weekend special.
